Focus – My One Word for 2016

January 25, 2016 6 Comments

Last year was the first year I chose a single word to define my year. Last year’s word was “Generous.” Yes I will still be generous this year; however, for this year my word will be “Focus.”

I always say that I am a slow learner but as I have crossed over into my second half century of life (turned 51 back in December), I have discovered that less really is more. Trying to do it all and piling on the stuff of life only leads to stress and it dilutes our effectiveness.

We allow so much into our lives all we have is a bunch of little pieces. It is through focus that we gain the most.

Focus will require me to put the most attention, energy, effort & time in the smallest areas. Like a hunter peering through a rifle scope, other than the target, little else is seen. To do this well I will have to say “no” to a lot of “good “things.

My focus will be limited too:

  • My Health
  • My Calling / Ministry
    •       Includes investing into others
  • My Family

This will not make my life rigid and boring but it will open up a greater possibility of living life to the fullest.

I need your help. Take sometime this year and send me an email and ask me how I am doing. Call me out! Put me on the spot!

What is your one word for 2016? Would you like for me to check in on you from time to time? If so, just include “check on me” and your email in the comments. – Don’t worry I don’t have anything to sell. It is just friends looking out for each other.

About the Author:

I am enthusiastic about helping others discover their purpose and grow into a deeper relationship with Jesus. It is great to see their eyes light up at their “Ah Ha!” moment when they discover they were created for something more. My hope is that this blog will help encourage and inspire you along your way. Join the conversation and take the time to share with me your own story. I have been married to my beautiful wife Janice for over 30 years. We currently live in McDonough Georgia with our daughter. Our two boys have left the nest and we have two wonderful grand kids. Of course we cannot forget about our dog Bear.
