Someday is not a Day and neither is Tomorrow
I have to admit I used to be the king of someday. I would love to wile away my time dreaming about someday or tomorrow. When I was very young my Aunt Tootie (Everyone needs an Aunt Tootie) would ask me to spend the night. Being rather attached to my parents I would always respond “morrow day.” Even though I loved my Aunt, I was not brave enough to be separated from the safety of my parents. I would delay by saying “morrow day” – Morrow day was my someday.
Tomorrow day became a dodge, a delay but also hidden was the hope that maybe tomorrow I would be brave enough. I know this has been a riveting story but there is a point. Because of doubts and fears we dodge, we delay we hope that maybe tomorrow we will be brave enough.
Someday
- Someday my writing will be good enough
- Someday I will have a good idea
- Someday I will not be so busy
- Someday when the kids are grown
- Someday when I have enough money
- Someday when I have a new job or retire
The Problem?
Someday never comes. I have to admit I am a big chicken. I am scared to declare that today is the day! What if I am wrong? What if people laugh at me? What if I fail. – See how easily the excuses flow?
The major problem?
Life is fleeting. Each day literally flies by. It seems like it was just yesterday when I was that little kid declaring “morrow day.” The reality is I just turned 51 and tomorrow may never come.
Today
“Do what you can where you are with what you’ve got.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Let’s rise up and declare that someday is no day; it does not exist. Today is the day to make it happen. Today my writing is good enough. Today I have a great idea. Today I will be wise with my time. Today I have enough time and money to make something happen. It may be a small step or it may be a great leap; today I need to take it.
What if it all goes right today?
What will you do today?
