2017 – Your Blank Page
“Life is like a blank sheet of paper. You never know what it can be until you put something on it. So Dream It! Do it!… What are you waiting for?” – Marty Sklar
Well another year has come and gone. How was 2016 for you? For me? It was pretty good year. Nothing overly exciting but a good year none the less. I am blessed with wonderful family, friends, church and a good job. I am sure the blogosphere will be flooded this week on goals setting, resolutions and life plan making. If used right, all of those can be great tools for success. I am choosing to approach this New Year a bit differently. (Although I am sure I will be reviewing some goals before January is out.)
I found the quote above in a book I just finished, Dream it! Do It!: My Half Century Creating Disney’s Magic Kingdoms by Marty Sklar. (Yes I am what you would call a Disnerd) Sklar started as a copy writer his junior year in college and went on to be the executive leading the creative Imagineeers who make all the magic happen in the parks. I guess he was an expert on dealing with blank pages.
I want to approach 2017 as a blank page. A page to start fresh, to create something new. Not necessarily to fix something or bring about change. Instead of reflecting on 2016 and using that as a foundation for change, I really want to start fresh. A total look forward. I know I can’t ignore the past but I want my focus to be on the future.
“There are two ways to look at a blank sheet of paper…. You can see it as the most frightening thing in the world because you have to make the first mark on it. Or you can see a blank page as the greatest opportunity – you get to make the first mark on it. You can let your imagination fly in any direction. You can create whole new worlds. “ – Marty Sklar
I know at least one way 2017 will be completely new for me. My first grandchild, a girl, should be arriving around the first of March. Yes I am that old. Life is fleeting, make every day count.
Every day we get a gift, a chance to make our mark on our own blank page.
What will you fill your blank page with in 2017?
