Why I Love Mondays
‘In the morning when you awake and behold the light, consider that you behold a fresh manifestation of the lovely glory of God.’ – Jonathan Edwards
Happy Monday!
By the time this posts I will be on the road heading to work in downtown Atlanta. While my computer boots up I will head off to the break room for a cup of coffee. There I will meet my fellow workers. Many will look tired and sleepy. We will greet each other and it will not be long until I hear, “Ugh it’s Monday,” “I can’t wait until Friday.” They will just be living their life for those two days out of a week.
I too used to be one of those people. I hated Monday and longed for Friday. However, one day I had someone ask, “Why are you wishing your life away?” It made me think but not very much. I still hated Mondays. Time has passed and I mellowed a bit with age. I got tired of being sick and tired every Monday. In just a few short months I will turn 50. My dad only lived to 54. I really don’t want to wish my life away living for a weekend that really never satisfies.
I am blessed with a beautiful wife of over 27 years and 3 great children – whom I can’t refer to as kids anymore. I have a job that pays the bills and God allows me to shepherd the wonderful people that call Life Church in Conyers GA their church home. Sure life is not perfect. Just like everyone else I have to deal with struggles and pain of life. As I grow older not too many weeks go by when another friend or family member has passed on from this life.
It took me a long time to figure it out but I have a choice on how I will live each day. Even on the days that are difficult my response and my attitude are my own.
I prefer to wake up and embrace each day. Most days I get up two hours early (no I am not a morning person; every day I want to hit the snooze button one more time.) so I can start the day off blessing God who is my source of everything I have.
“This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24
Many days my brain may be telling me otherwise but I confess Psalm 118:24. This reminds my attitude that today is going to be great and I am going to live it to the fullest and hopefully I can bring God glory. That is my choice that I have to make no matter what my circumstances try to tell me. Each day is an adventure and I don’t want to leave anything on the table. I forgot where I first heard this analogy: “By the end of life I want to be like a wash cloth fully rung out – given every last drop of life – nothing left to give.”
So if I happen to see you on Monday I just might greet you with “Happy Monday” and remind you that each day is what we make of it.
Never forget you have a choice to make life what it is. Let’s make it great!!
