Are you Expecting Average?
“Average people become that way because they change their expectations. They expect to be average, and sadly they are okay with being average. Average is pretty safe….” – Andy Traub
I am not sure when it happens. We most often start life seeing every new day as a grand adventure. Around every corner lies something exciting and something new to explore. We dream of growing up and finding our dream job. Our parents even told us, “You can be anything you want.” So we grow up, still full of dreams and excitement. However, we quickly discover bills, bosses we don’t like, illness and even death and lost friendships.
Suddenly our only dream is to make it through the day and wishing for Friday. If we are not careful, our lives will become nothing more than an average blur bleeding from one year to the next.
We become average, we see average, and we expect average. Average becomes safe; average becomes our refuge (or so we think).
However, life is not meant to be safe. I remember as a child coming home with skinned knees and a bloody lip and those were a badges of honor and signs of a great day.
This week I don’t want to expect average. I don’t want to look for it. I want to see something great something exciting. The only question then becomes am I willing to take a chance, try something new; am I willing walk to out on that limb?
Will you take on the challenge? You don’t have to try to change the world but will you simply stand out from the crowd? Be silly, go the extra mile or simply change your attitude. Expect something more than average!
“Don’t be average; average is lame!” – Andy Traub
What are you expecting? Can I help you expect something more?
