Your Ministry Should Not Be Random

May 20, 2013 5 Comments

God does not do random. Throughout the Bible we see that God is very intentional with what he does. Yet how often do we just think God will show up in our ministries and make something wonderful happen? Yes God does show up in unexpected times and ways, but we need to be more strategic and intentional with what we do. We have to step out in faith and do our part.

Here is a simple example. Before our service starts each Sunday I take time to work the room.  I make sure I walk around and greet as many people as possible. I shake hands and hug necks. I ask about family members and how their week went. This is something I choose and plan ahead of time to do each week. It is not something where I feel some great spiritual compelling leading me around the room.  However, more often than not I have the opportunity to encourage and pray with someone. It also allows me to build a closer relationship with those God has called me to shepherd. It is easy for me to get into “work mode” on Sunday’s and just focus on what needs to get done. I have to be proactive and intentional to cause myself to remember that everything we do is about God and his people.

Granted the simple fact of me shaking hands and hugging necks will not change someone’s life but what it does is make sure I am in the right place at the right time when God is ready to work through me. God is the one that brings life and transforms us and makes us new; however, he always works through people.

How can God work through me if I just plant myself in a seat or hideaway in my office?  I have to make a choice to step out and position myself to be available. God does not move until we make that first step of faith. That first step is a choice and often times an act of obedience. It rarely happens by chance.

  •   – Pray for God to give you the wisdom on how you can be more intentional about your ministry.
  •  – Be strategic – How you position yourself for ministry should always fit within the context of what God has called you to do.
  •  – Do not sit idle just waiting for ministry opportunities to come to you. There are times we need to wait and not move to hastily until we have heard from God; however, throughout the Bible it is clear that God most often moves when we step out on faith and take that first step.

God does not do random so neither should you. (Tweet This)

We need to constantly seek the heart of God so we can be more intentional to live out our own calling. (Tweet This)

Your voice is important; I would love to hear from you.
